The spiral serpents

The design of the logo, drawn by Maggie Organ, occurred to me by combining the two images of the snake and the labyrinth.

The snake is an animal that has been with me since childhood. It has appeared to me in various forms, some imaginal, some material. It has been a guide on many occasions, and for me it represents healing and hidden power.

The spiral is thought to be a symbol of the goddess when it is carved on monuments such as New Grange, and it forms the basis of a labyrinth - a kind of maze where you are not required to choose, but only to follow faithfully. Walking the labyrinth, whether in the Cathedral at Chartres or in Grace Cathedral San Francisco, is a journey into the still place of death in the centre, and then out again, following the thread of Ariadne, into the light.

Serpents and mazes are often connected, as in the mazes for snakes in the ruins of the healing centre of Epidauros in Greece.
